Maintaining Your Car Wash's Equipment

by Tina Hill

Managing a car wash can be a lucrative business opportunity. However, individuals will often underestimate the amount of maintenance that this business will require. This can lead to them neglecting to effectively care for their car wash equipment, which can lead to frustrating customer experiences and a higher risk of needing to pay for expensive repairs or even the replacement of major components.

Regularly Test The Water Quality

Poor water quality can be a serious problem for car wash equipment. Over the course of being used, this equipment will have a tremendous amount of water flowing through it, which can lead to the equipment being prone to develop mineral deposits if the system is being supplied with hard water. Eventually, these deposits may restrict the flow of water through the equipment or clog it outright. Regularly testing the water will be necessary to determine if this is a potential problem.

Flush The Soap Containers

A car wash will need to have large soap storage tanks. Unfortunately, some car wash management teams will fail to keep these storage tanks maintained. For example, these tanks will need to be thoroughly flushed periodically. This will remove soap deposits or clumps that may have started to form in the tank. Flushing will eliminate these potential problems before they are able to get trapped in the tubing or sprayers. Luckily, this type of work should only take a couple of hours to complete. Furthermore, you may choose to have the containers flushed in a way that will allow you to avoid having to shut down all of the car washing areas at the same time. This can allow you to continue to serve customers while this basic maintenance is conducted.

Inspect The Handles And Nozzles Of Any Handheld Sprayers

The handheld sprayers will likely be some of the most used devices at your car wash. These sprayers will allow customers to easily clean many of the harder-to-reach areas of the vehicle. However, the intense use that these devices experience can lead to them suffering wear that could impact performance. For example, you may need to regularly inspect the handles of these systems to determine whether they need to be replaced or could benefit from lubrication. Also, it can be possible for the nozzle of a sprayer to become damaged due to customers dropping it, and you will want to test the sprayers to ensure they are able to provide a consistent stream of water.
